Monday, August 8, 2011 - That's the message I saw on a car parked down the street today. Vamoose! means Let's Get Moving! It is derived from the Spanish word vamos, which means let's go!
I didn't go walking until the afternoon, because it had been raining all day. The sun came out around 4:30 and beckoned to me to come out. Along the road I came upon some telling leaves, which made me suspicious. WITWIT? It looked like someone had been using them for target practice. I scooped up the evidence.

Above in the trees, I heard a bird call. It had the rhythm of a round of four from a machine gun, but much higher pitched. But then again, it also sounded like laughter.
I kept walking. When I arrived at the corner of Blueberry and Dalehill, I could not believe my eyes. It appeared that I just just missed quite a skirmish. A skirmish is a brief fight or encounter carried on between small groups, usually part of a larger battle. The air looked and felt thick with something. I ran home to grab my camera and take pictures for evidence.

Imagine, yesterday I was sipping on a WILD BLUE blueberry beverage, and today I was investigating the remains of a wild skirmish on Blueberry Drive. How weird!

It looked like there had been a scuffle in the bushes, and leaves and branches had been shot down all over the place.
When I arrived at home, I noticed a mourning dove, walking aimlessly in circles arounnd by our front walkway. I also noticed a squirrel near by. I looked at him, and he looked back at me, and then started digging, as if to say to me, "Well, what are you waiting for, let's go, we've got to dig into this."

I could not get the word skirmish out of my mind, so I went to the dictionary when I got home and found it used in a Shakespeare quote: They never meet but there's a skirmish of wit. Ah, WITWIT! So this is a battle of wits, is it? Arm yourselves and get ready. Meanwhile, I'm going to vamoose (let's get out of here!) for a couple of days.

...STAY TUNED for more action!
