WALKING IN THE RAIN

                                                    just imagine
                                           everyone's ripples of giving,
                                      radiating outward and overlapping

NETWORKING BEYOND
THE GOLDEN RULE

April showers us with water AND light, which are both so essential to life. Walking on a warm rainy Spring day can be incredibly refreshing!  You can become mesmorized watching the puddles ripple, as reflecting waves of light react to the surface impact of the falling raindrops.  This entrancing effect may lead you into your own reflection or meditation, and in meditation some interesting thoughts will come bubbling up to the surface.

Here's what bubbled up in my mind recently... I attended a sales class I  yesterday at University Business Consultants presented by Dennis Rebelo.  The particular subject that day was about networking. Specifically, Dennis was discussing the difference between being a "Spectator" and being a "Player," and sharing his thoughts as to a Player's mindset.  One gem of wisdom that stuck in my mind most was his statement of THE PLATINUM RULE:

"Do unto others as they wish to have done unto them."

So what does this mean exactly?  It means that you create a relationship by helping a person attain something he or she would very much like to have.  This goes beyond the Golden Rule by being more specific. Dennis suggests that in preparing yourself for networking, you have a significant question ready to pull out of your toolbox to start off a conversation:

"What can I help you accomplish today?"

Passionate about language, Dennis carefully selects the most powerful words, and he explains his word choice.  The word accomplish is goal- oriented.  It also elicits useful information.  How can you do unto others what they wish to have done unto them if you do not know their wishes?  Givers gain!  That philosophy is what makes for some extremely powerful networking.

This morning I connected this concept with a theory I had sketched out several weeks ago: the Universal Theory of Light A.K.A. The Universal Theory of Kindness.  For a concise illustration of this theory click here.

RIPPLES
IN THE TIDE POOL

The afternoon of Good Friday, I took my daughter and her friend Chad down to their favorite spot in Rhode Island - Beavertail.  They explored the rocky shoreline with her camera, while I walked three loops around the park - about three miles.

After my walk, I found a secluded spot overlooking the West Bay - a nice warm flat rock next to a clear tide pool.  I stripped off my shoes and socks and dipped my feet in for a salt water soak.  The water was not as chilling as I expected.  Not at all.  It was a soothing temperature.  So, I left my feet in, while I lay back on the rock to soak up the sun.  This is pure heaven.

After a while I sat up to gaze at the tide pool.  There were at least six different types of seaweed and many other signs of life.  Thinking about the ripple effect, I gathered water on my  hand and flicked it out across the tidepool, so that I could watch the ripples play with the images I saw beneath the surface.

It was a Good Friday!
